Carbon Footprint

Molecor has successfully completed the verification process for its Organisational Carbon Footprint (OCF), a report that quantifies the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions resulting from the organisation's direct and indirect activities. The assessment focused on Scopes 1 and 2, calculating emissions for the years 2022 and 2023, using 2022 as the baseline.

The analysis followed the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard (GHG Protocol), a globally recognised methodology for measuring and managing GHG emissions. This protocol ensures consistency and reliability in emissions accounting and reporting. The calculation relied on operational data combined with emission factors sourced from the latest available information at the time of preparation.

For this initial report, an operational control approach was adopted. This means that the calculation includes emissions from all national and international production facilities as well as company-owned commercial vehicles, where Molecor has full control over operational policies and access to complete data. The calculation boundaries were set based on operational limits, categorising emissions as either direct or indirect.

The report reveals that Molecor’s OCF for Scopes 1 and 2 amounted to 12,809.76 t CO2 eq in 2022 and 14,639.14 t CO2 eq in 2023. The increase in emissions is largely attributed to the inclusion of the Malaysian plant in the 2023 inventory. However, emission ratios relative to turnover and annual production have remained stable, reflecting emission reductions at other production sites compared to 2022.

Notably, Molecor’s use of renewable energy sources across its facilities has significantly reduced its environmental impact. Emissions avoided due to renewable energy usage totaled 692.79 t CO2 eq in 2022 and 3,173.05 t CO2 eq in 2023, representing reductions of 6.57% and 27.30%, respectively, compared to total emissions for those years. This effort underscores Molecor's contribution to combating climate change.

As part of its Strategic Sustainability Plan, which includes a commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040, Molecor is enhancing its footprint calculations to support its Decarbonisation Plan. This includes plans to assess Scope 3 emissions in 2024. Scope 3 encompasses indirect emissions generated across the organisation’s value chain, such as those from suppliers, product distribution, and employee travel. Special attention will be given to supply chain processes and employee mobility to identify further opportunities for reducing the organisation’s overall carbon impact.
